Diane Abbott today become the second outsider in the Labour leadership contest to wade into the mudslinging match of media scrutiny with a well aimed swipe at frontrunner Dave Miliband. In an interview with Polly Toynbee, the chocolate hobnob of British politics, as Andrew Neill so fondly dubbed her, delivered a devastating attack on Miliband Snr, accusing his campaign of “buying” the race.
Abbott, standing as the only “non-continuity” contender, has attacked Dave for his connections to “old Blairite money” and said “there’s no doubt that money is making a huge difference in this election.”
As Politickle duly covered a week ago, Dave has raised something in the region of £200,000, far outstripping the rest of Labour’s motley crew.
