The Coalition’s resolve is set to be sorely tested this autumn, as the Lib Dem party conference looks to be dominated by divisions over Michael Gove’s flagship, if a bit rushed, education proposals. Enraged Lib Dems have put forward a somewhat embarrassing motion calling for parents to boycott Gove’s ‘Free Schools’, branding the institutions “socially divisive, likely to depress education outcomes and an inefficient use of resources in an age of austerity”.
The motion, published today, was proposed by retired teacher and Lib Dem councillor Peter Downes, and promises to be the lead education event at this year’s Lib Dem bonanza.
